THE ROSE
If it interests you...here you can observe the compass by which I navigate my life -- my philosophies and belief systems upon which I mostly live. I've traveled a great deal and met a vast array of people and changed my ideas very radically many times about many things, so my brain is not hardwired to one strict concept of anything. I've been turned 180 degrees more than once on serious matters; and I hope that, as I age, I continue to embrace wisdom and anything that might change my mind on any particular matter, rather than simply fossilize myself merely because it was my earliest exposure to something.
It's not meant to be a narcissistic diatribe, just a simple means for those who may want to know me a bit more intimately to do so.
LUCY SAYS...
As we watch the minutes and days become years, we are always
updating numerous elements of ourselves.
Until recently, my favourite movie was a tough tie between
SIN CITY and WATCHMEN.
LUCY changed that.
LUCY changed almost everything for me.
It's rare that a movie can rival the impact this one had on me.
Having met and spent time with Scarlett might have had something
to do with it but it was, by far, the timing.
If you have seen this movie and it had any impact on you at all you'll
know how poetic that is for me to say.
If you have not seen LUCY, it is...in my opinion...
the best movie ever made.
Yes there are numerous movies like Citizen Kane and the like whose
artistic and cinematography are unmatched.
Yes there are numerous directors whose eye, choices and influence
on their movies have made many movies people could debate in
salons were the best movies ever made.
My criteria, however, for such a claim has nothing to do with any of that.
My criteria for what makes a movie the best movie ever made
has to do with how well a movie captures a significant subject with just
the ideal recipe for perfect digestibility.
LUCY is that movie.
It quickly seizes us as spectators into a gripping and
adrenaline-pumping vicarious journey into the last hours of a
woman who is evolving at an accelerated
rate towards near-finitesimal/infinite god-dom, from a mere frail
and desperate victim of caprice towards
where we all might eventually become near-deities.
The reflections upon us as a race, as a creation and how far
we have come over millions of years and its predictions of
where we might still go are enough to keep you sleepless for days.
More than this, however, is the issue of TIME and that it is the
only thing left we have that has genuine value.
This is my belief.
Whatever else we do create, build, destroy, accomplish it is all just dross.
The only element of creation that we should be valuing is TIME.
Every precious drop of it.
Time, for me, is everything.
We are born and die; and between those two frontiers there's only
so many minutes and moments;
and, to truly respect them, ourselves and the gift itself,
there must be a deep and boundless appreciation for how those
minutes and moments are being used.
They must not be wasted!
This has caused me to go daringly out into the world to travel as
much as I can, try everything from
horseback-riding to go-karting and -- as time passes I hope a long
list of other, more adventurous, things.
Perhaps I'll jump out of a plane and climb a mountain,
canoe down the Nahanni
River or run with the bulls, try firewalking.
Who knows.
The possibilities are endless.
More than anything I don't want to die and reflect on my
death-bed that I was born and remained in a small-town somewhere
and never ventured out into the world to do anything fascinating.
I consider my sex-life an excellent use of that time; and sex is not
something anyone should have to pay for.
That's ridiculous! When someone pays for my time they are
paying me to choose them over someone or something else I
could be doing with that time whether
it's laying in the grass watching the treetops, sailing,
or writing the great-American novel.
Or watching paint dry. However I spend my time it matters to me
deeply and profoundly even when I am doing something that might
seem to others a waste of it.
My choices are deliberate. THIS is what I want to be doing right now.
I don't drift. I don't meander from one moment of my life to another.
I don't want to end a day or week or a month or year and
look back and see all the hours I didn't make deliberate choices
and so I essentially wasted hours and days not really making choices.
When I choose you...I am choosing you very specifically.
You matter.
It matters.
The time I give you is my time...my priceless time.
You become my focus.
It's important to me that you know the time we share and have
and spend is gone...forever.
It cannot be recovered.
So it matters to me.
The best way to give the greatest value to that time is to make
you matter so that it is time well-spent.
I've already made so many priceless memories with you all.
I hope to have a library of amazing memories of the time I have spent with you.
Unlike everything else, they can't be burned, lost or stolen.
